Description

The Kingdoms of Ptolemies and Seleucids were two powerful Hellenistic empires that controlled the ancient Near East in the centuries after Alexander the Great’s conquests. This stock image depicts the vast territories of these two kingdoms, which were formed after Alexander’s death in 323 BCE. The Ptolemaic Kingdom, ruled by the Ptolemy dynasty, controlled Egypt and parts of Libya, Nubia, and the Levant. Meanwhile, the Seleucid Kingdom, ruled by the Seleucus dynasty, controlled much of the territory formerly held by the Persian Empire, including modern-day Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and parts of Turkey and Afghanistan.
