Description

The stock image depicts the area of Judah during the time of the biblical book of Ruth. The map shows the town of Bethlehem, where the story begins with the family of Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and their two sons, Mahlon and Chilion.

The family moves to the nearby country of Moab due to a famine in Judah. While in Moab, Mahlon and Chilion marry Moabite women, Ruth and Orpah, respectively. After the death of Elimelech and his sons, Naomi decides to return to Judah and urges her daughters-in-law to stay in Moab. However, Ruth insists on accompanying Naomi to Judah and pledges to follow the God of Israel.

The map also shows the fields where Ruth gleans grain, which leads to her meeting Boaz, a relative of Naomi’s husband’s family.

The story of Ruth and Boaz’s relationship, marriage, and eventual birth of a son, Obed, is an important part of biblical history and the lineage of King David.
