Hammurabi Stele

Description

The Hammurabi Stele is a stock image of an ancient basalt stone monument. The image shows the top of the stele, which is adorned with a relief of Hammurabi receiving the law code from the sun god, Shamash.

The law code, which is inscribed in Akkadian cuneiform script, is displayed in parallel columns on the stele’s face. The code comprises 282 legal prescriptions and punishments, and is considered one of the earliest and most influential legal codes in human history.

The Hammurabi Stele image is often used to illustrate the importance of ancient law and justice in the Near East.
