Description
Color photo of a Roman Standard as it was in the time that the Romans besieged Jerusalem in 70 AD.
This was the symbol of the tenth legion of Rome called Legio X Fretensis which means “Tenth Legion of the Sea Strait”. Notice the wild boar at the top right, and the eagle at the top left, these were the symbols of the Roman Empire. Wild boars were depicted in several military legions as a symbol of strength, courage, and as a sign of humility. The Romans also used the wild boar (pig) to humiliate the Jews. The eagle was also a symbol of strength and courage, it represented Zeus. The eagle was also humiliating to the Jews who did not worship Zeus or any man as a god.
