Description

Color photo of the Citadel of David in Jerusalem.

“built upon the crest of a hill” – Flavius Josephus

Also at the main entrance into Jerusalem is the Citadel of David where Jesus was judged by Pontius Pilate, only the base is original Herodian. Josephus mentions this place in great detail., and he mentions Herod’s Palace as “wondrous beyond words.” He also said the citadel was built upon the crest of a hill. The Romans buried the whole city except for Herod’s 3 mighty towers: Phasael, Hippicus, and Mariamne. Inside is a beautiful museum of all the history of Jerusalem from creation to the independence day of the State of Israel, including archaeology.

O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!  Isaiah 40:9
