Augustus Prima Porta

Description

The stock image is a sculpture of the Roman emperor Augustus in military attire. Augustus stands with one foot slightly forward, his left hand holding his cloak and his right arm extended.

He wears a cuirass and a cape, and his head is adorned with a laurel wreath. The statue is made of marble and stands on a pedestal, which is decorated with reliefs depicting the goddess Roma and the emperor’s family. The image is named after the location where the statue was discovered in 1863, near the town of Prima Porta in Italy.

The statue is considered one of the most important surviving examples of Roman imperial portraiture, and it is thought to have been created around 20 BC.
